77th Tony Awards: Winners Include Merrily We Roll Along, The Outsiders, and Stereophonic

The 77th Annual Tony Awards

Theatre’s biggest night, 77th Tony Awards, more affectionately referred to as The Tony’s, is always a great time filled with expected winners and dark horses coming from behind. This year is no different, leaving fans on the edge of their seats for each and every award.

The speeches ranged from the standard affair of thanking everyone involved to heartfelt pleas for continuing to fund the arts to loving tributes to the struggles and triumphs of the performers. Many winners were gracious to not only their cast and creatives for the win but also recognized the people who run the theatres every day and night to make each production happen.

Out of all the speeches, Kecia Lewis from Hell’s Kitchen and Jonathan Groff from Merrily We Roll Along had the moments of the night talking about the love and support they received along their journeys and asking people to always support dreams, even if we don’t understand them.

The night also included appearances by Hillary Clinton and Angelina Jolie, who both produced musicals nominated. There was also a special tribute to the supremely talented late Chita Rivera.

At the end of the night, The Outsiders surprised everyone and won the most coveted musical award — Best Musical, while Stereophonic took home Best Play.

Here are all the winners from both the Tony Awards telecast and the Creative Awards section of the night.
