Rain Janjua is a star on the rise. At just 12 years old, the actor is cementing himself as one to watch in the industry. His credits span from Syfy’s Chucky to the titular Togo in CBC’s Go Togo and Zeke in PBS Kids’ Work It Out Wombats! In addition to acting, Rain is a multidisciplinary artist, with his first hip-hop track, “The RAiNaissance,” taking the world by storm last year.

Rain’s next project is part of the beloved PAW Patrol franchise. He is set to star in PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie alongside a star-studded cast that includes Snoop Dogg, Mckenna Grace, Terry Crews, Bill Nye, and Paris Hilton, which is poised to hit the big screen this summer.

Recently, Eulalie Magazine had the privilege of chatting with Rain about his role in PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, what audiences can expect, and more.

This interview is edited for clarity.

Eulalie Magazine: I wanted to start by asking you about your acting journey. What inspired you to become an actor?

Rain Janjua: When I was six or seven years old, I watched a lot of those child YouTubers, and I thought, “Hey, that’s really cool. I want to get into it.” Then, I told my parents. Originally, they were a little hesitant, but then they said I could do it as long as I did it professionally.

Eulalie Magazine: Let’s talk about PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie. Can you tell me what it’s about?

Rain Janjua: It’s about the whole gang going to an island and finding out that there are dinosaurs on it. Then, they go on an adventure.

Eulalie Magazine: How does your character, Chase, fit into the story?

Rain Janjua: Well, I can’t really say too much as of right now, but I help [them] explore and find out how the dinosaurs are still there and what they do.

Eulalie Magazine: What was it like recording for this film?

Rain Janjua: It was really cool. Great cast. The directors were super nice. It was overall just a really great experience, especially because it is such a big franchise. It was very fun and very exciting.

Eulalie Magazine: What can audiences expect when they watch PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie?

Rain Janjua: They can expect fun for all ages. It’s very silly at times, and also heroic. It’s a great movie to watch with family and friends.

Eulalie Magazine: What was your favorite part about working on this movie?

Rain Janjua: My favorite part was just the actual recording itself. As I said, the directors were really nice, and they made sure that I did my best.

Eulalie Magazine: Switching gears here, you also released a hip-hop track called “The RAiNaissance” last year. What was the inspiration behind that, and how did you develop your skills as a beatboxer?

Rain Janjua: My parents would always bring me to these cool events. They brought me to the 2019 Canadian Beatbox Championship. I was in the very front of the stage. I remember the MC, Scott Jackson, asked if I wanted to go up during one of the breaks and try my best at beatboxing, which I did. Then, after that, one of the judges reached out and offered to give me lessons.

I’ve been doing lessons with a few people. For the inspiration behind the song, one of my beatboxing coaches, Rio Lodge, was teaching me how to do loopstation. We would go busking in Toronto. He’s also a rapper, and he’s part of a rap group. Sometimes, he’d get me to try to freestyle, but I’m not very good at freestyling. I took rap lessons from him as well. I remember we would just sit there and write songs. We started writing that, and then my mom took it as inspiration.

Eulalie Magazine: What do you like to do in your free time?

Rain Janjua: I like listening to music. I like to hang out with my friends, whether that’s in person or just by calling them. I like to play video games with them.

Eulalie Magazine: Last question. Do you have any favorite movies?

Rain Janjua: I don’t really watch too many movies, but I love Top Gun: Maverick and Rush Hour.
