For many years now, Hulu has been the home for FX programming. An FX series rarely misses, and this truth remains with Adults.
This original series doesn’t have a unique premise, but it still feels extremely fresh.
Adults follow 20-somethings trying to navigate life in New York. The five-person cast may get compared to classics like Friends, but this is far from that ’90s staple. It’s bolder and a lot more queer and racially diverse.

Adults isn’t perfect, and it definitely has a few growing pains. However, its charming qualities will delight comedy fans. Let’s explore why you need to put Adults on your radar immediately.
It’s Hilarious
A lot of comedy TV shows just aren’t that funny, or at least not my brand of humor. Adults made me laugh a lot during some of the episodes. Adults Season 1 Episode 3, “Have You Seen This Man?” might be a series best so far. It’s unhinged and ridiculous in the most thrilling, hilarious way.
There are so many moments that make me laugh out loud. Adults also may appeal to all types of comedy fans. It has gross-out humor, satirical comedy, edgy comedy, slapstick, and so much more.
It’s a mixed bag.
Though Adults sometimes rely on potty humor, the writing is very sharp without feeling high-brow. It’s simple enough to appeal to everyone, but those looking for sharper commentary will find it if they pay enough attention.

Adults is still finding itself, so who knows how the comedy plans to evolve, but it’s off to a great start.
The Diverse Cast
Diversity and representation matter, and Adults deliver on racial diversity. It also has LGBTQ+ representation with two queer main characters. Adults definitely could have included a few more racially diverse characters, but it’s doing better than many, especially when those characters feel fully formed and are not racial stereotypes.
Anton and Issa may be two of the series’ best characters. They’re hilarious and fascinating. All the Adults cast is great, because they add something to the series.
Each character has their own brand of comedy that makes them distinct and important.
I also don’t recognize any of the cast from prior work, so it is nice to see mostly unknown actors. They carry the show without needing a major celebrity attached.

The Potential For More Storylines
We have not seen many queer love triangles on television, so that’s partially what makes the one in Adults so exciting. Additionally, those paying attention saw it developing from the start. The only surprising development is that one cares about another character so much.
This makes it more complex than it seems.
I really want to see this play out in future seasons. I also really like the chemistry between two of the people in this love triangle, so curious to see them as a couple down the line. Two main characters also seem to have a friends-to-lovers vibe developing.
They are definitely Adults version of Ross and Rachel. I want to see more of that development in potential additional seasons. This FX series is also excellent at being consistent with running gags and storylines.
Many sitcoms or comedies treat each episode like an enclosed thing and will completely not mention something in the next episode. Adults often immediately mention something that happened in the previous episode.
Therefore, we expect things from the first season, like the serial killer in love with Anton, to be mentioned in possible future seasons. I want these running jokes and storylines to continue.
Adults is still developing its identity, but it’s a very entertaining show with a lot of potential. Give it a watch.
