Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 6, “Cats & Mouse” perfectly captures the essence of the thrill of the chase.
Before the chase begins, the episode starts with Dexter learning of the passing of Blessing’s mom, Prudence Kamara. “Change of plans,” he says to Harrison — he’s got a funeral to attend. To his surprise, Harrison stops by for moral support.

Harrison calls back to the time he attended Hannah McKay’s funeral. Subtle name drops like these aren’t new to Dexter: Resurrection, but they are always a treat when they happen. Glimpses into Dexter’s past that make his current reality more real and believable.
Dexter and Harrison have a heartfelt exchange—the calmest and most “normal” conversation they’ve had in a while, especially when Dexter teaches Harrison how to tie a tie. Turns out, there are other things Dexter can teach his son besides his kill code.
Harrison is trying every day to give up the ghost, and his struggle with staying on the straight and narrow is apparent when he has a heated interaction with Elsa’s landlord. Harrison imagining himself stabbing the landlord in the eye is a cruel reminder that getting over his urges won’t be easy.
But it’s the strength in not giving into them that will hopefully make it worthwhile for Harrison. Even just having the thought makes him feel guilty when he confides in Dexter about it. And Dexter tells Harrison something similar to what he once told his sister Debra: “It makes you human.”
While daunting with Claudette and Batista on his trail, Harrison’s journey right now feels tough but hopeful.

The episode takes an abrupt turn when we find out that Mia, a.k.a. Lady Vengeance, has allegedly killed herself, just as Detective Claudette, Detective Melvin, and Batista are going to question her about Dexter.
It’s revealed as a setup when we see the guard is the same person Charley found and offered a large sum of cash to earlier in the episode.
Dexter gets lucky again. But how many times can he get lucky in one episode?
After a dreadful meeting at Prater’s place, Dexter decides he can’t stand Gareth, A.K.A. the Gemini Killer. He embarks on a side quest to learn about Gareth’s ways, but later finds out it may have been a trap.
Although this scene is intense, it isn’t the first time Dexter has been face-to-face with a killer. In true Dexter fashion, he improvises when he’s caught, but he’s always prepared. When he offers Gareth a gin and tonic, it’s obvious Dexter knows how to get him.
He proves himself again when he anticipates Gareth switching the glasses when it’s offered to him—“Who’s number one, now?” Dexter says.

So far, this season has brought us many moments like this, where Dexter always comes close to getting into trouble but, at the last minute, finds his way out by himself or by pure luck.
But what it hasn’t done is pull the rug from underneath us and find Dexter in hot water—until “Cats & Mouse.” It turns out Dexter isn’t getting away with killing Gareth that easily.
At the end of the episode, Prater invites the remaining killers left in his group on a surprise helicopter trick. Dexter anticipates that Prater’s suspicions will rise when he notices Gareth hasn’t shown (since, you know, he killed him), but what he didn’t anticipate was Gareth still showing up. How is that possible?
Gareth—or whatever his twin’s name is, if he is the real Gareth and the other one was named something else—lives up to the name, the Gemini Killer. “How did I not see this coming?” Dexter asks himself.
How did we, as viewers, not see it coming either? The lines are blurred now between who are the cats, and who is the mouse.
There are only four episodes left of Dexter: Resurrection, and I can’t wait to see how Dexter gets out of this one — if he does.
