Olivia Dean did not need elaborate staging, endless costume changes, or massive special effects to command State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Give her a microphone, an incredible band, and a catalog of songs that people genuinely love, and the rest seems to come naturally.

That simplicity is part of what made The Art of Loving Tour such a magical experience.

Georgia native Baby Rose opened the evening with a soulful performance that immediately established the mood. Her rich, distinctive voice filled the arena beautifully, and it quickly became clear why she was chosen to join Dean on the road.

Rather than feeling like an obligatory opening set, Baby Rose’s performance complemented the warmth and soul that would define the rest of the night.

By the time Dean appeared for “The Art of Loving,” the Atlanta crowd was more than ready. Screams erupted throughout the arena as she emerged, before quickly moving into “Nice to Each Other” and beginning a set that pulled from multiple chapters of her career.

The production itself was relatively minimal. Dean was joined by two backup singers and a six-person band, with staging that never attempted to overwhelm the music. Yet nothing about the actual performance felt small.

Dean’s vocals were consistently stunning, the musicianship was exceptional, and the chemistry between everyone onstage made the show feel much bigger than its individual parts.

More importantly, Dean seemed to be having the time of her life.

That genuine joy became one of the night’s greatest strengths. Whether dancing across the stage, interacting with her band, or smiling back at thousands of fans singing every word, she never appeared to simply be moving through rehearsed motions.

There was an ease to the entire performance that made an arena show feel surprisingly intimate.

The show felt as though Dean would bring the same infectious energy and genuine joy to a crowd of 200 as she did to an arena of 20,000+.

That intimacy was especially apparent when Dean reflected on her relationship with Atlanta. She recalled beginning her first tour in the city in 2025, playing a considerably smaller venue and never imagining that her music would resonate with enough people to eventually bring her back to an arena.

It was a full-circle moment made even sweeter by the audience’s reaction.

Throughout the evening, Dean also offered brief glimpses into the stories behind her music. Instead of lengthy speeches interrupting the show’s momentum, she sprinkled in commentary about the inspiration or creative process behind certain songs before letting the music take over.

Tracks like “Messy,” “UFO,” “The Hardest Part,” and “Dive” allowed longtime listeners to revisit earlier eras, while songs from The Art of Loving demonstrated just how naturally her sound has evolved.

One of Dean’s greatest gifts is making vulnerability feel communal. Her songs explore love in all its complicated forms, from romantic desire and uncertainty to independence, heartbreak, and learning when to walk away.

Hearing those songs surrounded by thousands of people singing them back created an entirely different experience than listening through headphones.

There was plenty of energy, too. Dean’s take on Curtis Mayfield’s “Move On Up” was a particularly fitting addition to a set rooted so heavily in soul, while songs like “Ladies Room,” “So Easy (To Fall in Love),” and “Nice to Each Other” gave the audience plenty of opportunities to dance.

Still, the most memorable part of the concert wasn’t any one vocal run, song, or production choice. It was Dean herself.

There is something incredibly refreshing about watching an artist reach a new level of success while still appearing genuinely amazed that people have shown up to hear her sing. Her gratitude never felt rehearsed, and neither did the fun she was having onstage.

Even in an arena, there was a warmth to the performances that made the connection between Dean and her audience feel remarkably personal.

That authenticity carried through every portion of the show.

By the time the unmistakable opening of “Man I Need” arrived to close the night, the arena erupted once again. It was the perfect finale, transforming one of Dean’s biggest songs into a massive singalong and sending Atlanta home on an undeniable high.

The Art of Loving Tour is proof that bigger doesn’t always have to mean more complicated. Sometimes an exceptional voice, great songs, talented musicians, and an artist genuinely excited to share them are more than enough.

For Olivia Dean, they’re enough to fill an arena and make it feel like the most intimate room in the city.
