Our picks will be a mix of the latest installment in a beloved series, the beginning of a brand new series, or a standalone novel that you’ll want to sink your teeth into.
July’s picks feature a missing person’s investigation, a Mulan-inspired story, and Arthurian legends.
In order of release date, here are 5 fantasy novels we’re looking forward to reading in July:
The Night Ends with Fire by K.X. Song – July 2
This novel follows Meilin as she escapes being wed to a violent man by posing as her father and enlisting. While in the army, Meilin has visions of a sea dragon who promises her everything she wants, and she’ll have to figure out who deserves her trust and her heart. The Night Ends with Fire releases on July 2.

The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst – July 9
When her library burns down, Kiela and her assistant, Caz (a spider plant), relocate to the island where Kiela grew up. However, the island has changed since Kiela was last there, and she’ll have to open up her own shop if she wants to restore the island’s magic. The Spellshop releases on July 9.

She and her assistant, Caz, a sentient spider plant, have spent most of the last eleven years sequestered among the empire’s precious spellbooks, protecting the magic for the city’s elite. The Spice Gate by Prashanth Srivatsa – July 16
Amir dreams of running away, escaping his destiny as a Spice Carrier, but the universe has plans for him. Soon, Amir becomes involved in a conspiracy that could change the relationships between the eight kingdoms. The Spice Gate releases on July 16.

The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer – July 16
Jeremy and Rafe’s disappeared into a magical realm for six months. 15 years later, Jeremy’s a missing person’s investigator and takes a case where Emilie’s sister disappeared from the very same forest Jeremy and Rafe did, prompting Jeremy and Rafe to return to this realm and face their past. The Lost Story hits shelves on July 16.

The Mirror of Beasts by Alexandra Bracker – July 30
Now that Avalon has infiltrated the real world, Tamsin and her friends must do what they can to stop Lord Death from taking over. The Mirror of Beasts, the second book in the Silver in the Bone duology, releases on July 30
