If there is anything that puts fear back into YouTube’s community, it has to be Kane Parsons’ Backrooms video series. Now, audiences worldwide will get to experience the terror that scared the internet thanks to A24’s newest collaboration.
A24 released the official teaser for the highly anticipated Backrooms film, which will be released in theaters on May 29. It will be based on Parsons’ iconic YouTube series, following new characters that haven’t been seen before.
Although this teaser keeps things very brief and mysterious, fans of the original Backrooms series may have an idea of what’s to come.

The teaser itself sees Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve’s characters having a conversation about discovering this unusual phenomenon. Ejiofor’s character is incredibly disturbed by this, explaining how this dimension goes “on and on” without any end.
However, he also states that this realm “remembers” rooms, like it has a mind of its own. Going on to mention how this place remembers more of itself, he says that it essentially rewrites and forgets what it was the deeper one goes.
On the surface level, things only begin to get more mysterious when a “strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom,” according to the film’s synopsis.
Unfortunately, the abnormal and deadly designs of the Backrooms aren’t the only things that they have to worry about. In Parsons’ original series, this dimension is filled with abominations and terrifying creatures that lurk in the shadows.

Furthermore, it was also revealed that the Backrooms was part of an experiment by a clandestine organization trying to uncover its secrets after it failed to be used as an office space. Whether the Backrooms film will have connections to Parsons’ video series remains to be seen.
In addition to Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, the cast also includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell. Parson will direct the film, and Homeland‘s Will Soodik will serve as its writer.
As for the YouTube series, viewers can watch all of the original videos on Kane Parsons’ channel, Kane Pixels. Aside from the Backrooms, Parsons has also worked on another iconic video series, The Oldest View, which takes tonal inspirations from his first series.
