What does it mean to find the person you’re searching for? It means you’ve got to have hope, love, and joy, which Remarkably Bright Creatures looks to cover.
Netflix released the official trailer and a new look at Remarkably Bright Creatures, which premieres on Friday, May 8, on Netflix.
Despite what some may think, one can find connection with anything, anywhere. In Remarkably Bright Creatures, that connection seems to be created through one of the strangest, yet familiar, creatures of this planet: an octopus.

Based on Shelby Van Pelt’s best-selling book, Remarkably Bright Creatures follows two characters, Tova and Cameron, who are searching for something. Tova seeks a worthwhile friendship while Cameron is looking for his father in the town where Tova lives.
Together, the two work at the town’s local aquarium, getting into some mundane tasks, like cleaning the floor and the animal tanks. However, Tova seemingly makes friends with Marcellus, a Giant Pacific Octopus whose thoughts are voiced by Alfred Molina.
As Marcellus keeps an eye on them, Tova and Cameron gradually grow a close friendship that sees Cameron making a life in this town. Both of them go through ups and downs, like Cameron finding a girlfriend and Tova reflecting on her husband’s death.
With their friendship, Tova and Cameron will uncover a mystery that will lead them to a life-changing discovery and restore their sense of wonder, according to the synopsis.
As for how Tova and Marcellus’ odd, yet adorable friendship will be reshaped for this adaptation, that remains to be seen.

In addition to Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, and Alfred Molina, the cast of Remarkably Bright Creatures also includes Colm Meaney, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant, and Sofia Black D’Elia.
Remarkably Bright Creatures is directed by Where the Crawdads Sing‘s Olivia Newman and written by Newman and John Whittington.
The film is produced by Bryan Unkeless, Peter Craig, and David Levine. It is executive produced by Shelby Van Pelt, Erika Hampson, Olivia Newman, Alisa Tager, Tony Lipp, and Alyssa Rodrigues.
