FROM is an underrated horror gem. Now barreling headfirst into its fourth season on MGM+, the Harold Perrineau-led series is a mystery that is slowly but surely unraveling. Here’s an official synopsis per Amazon Studios:

“In Season 4, the closer the residents of the town get to the answers they seek, the more terrifying their search becomes. There are many questions to be answered. Who is the Man in Yellow, and what does he want? Will Jade and Tabitha’s revelation be the key to finally going home? How much longer can Boyd hold the town together, even as his body and mind are falling apart? And what role will the town’s most recent arrival play in the events to come? Season 4 will open doors that some in town will end up wishing had remained closed.”

Recently, I had the privilege of chatting with Hannah Cheramy, who stars in FROM as Julie Matthews, about what fans can expect for Season 4, Julie’s journey, why the show resonates with audiences, and more.

This interview is condensed for length and clarity.

Eulalie Magazine: What is your origin story? How did you get into acting?

Hannah Cheramy: I got into acting when I was about 11 years old, but started a few years before that. I was begging my mom to find out how to get me an agent. My mom got very lucky, and she knew someone who knew someone who knew someone, basically. They were looking at pictures of me, and I was a very dramatic child, posing really hard for all my pictures. Then, I got a meeting with my current agent. That was 12 years ago.

FROM Season 4

Eulalie Magazine: Let’s talk about FROM. Can you tell me how you got involved with the show?

Hannah Cheramy: I started on FROM when I was 17, so a long time ago now. It was pretty standard; I just auditioned. I was graduating high school that year, and I found out that I was leaving within the next week to go to Halifax. I missed my grad, I missed prom, and all that stuff. But it was so worth it, obviously, because FROM was way better than any of that.

Eulalie Magazine: How does your character, Julie, fit into the story?

Hannah Cheramy: Julie is definitely the focal point for young viewers to think and live vicariously. I think she’s also the representation of the importance of connection in this town. She’s constantly reaching out to different people and trying to keep everyone closer, even though she knows loss is inevitable in this place. She still reaches out to everyone and forms connections with different people. Obviously, her family is the most important thing to her.

Eulalie Magazine: What can audiences expect for Season 4?

Hannah Cheramy: Season 4 is really crazy. The first couple of episodes are just wild. There are new things. There are going to be answers to old things. There are going to be visits to old things from the past. I can’t say too much about it. Yes, this is a really good season.

Eulalie Magazine: Describe Season 4 using three words.

Hannah Cheramy: I feel like they’re always the same words. It’s just mind-blowing—maybe story, walk, and dolls.

Eulalie Magazine: That has some intrigue to it. What can you tease about Julie’s journey this season?

Hannah Cheramy: Julie’s journey is really crazy. Starting off with how the last season ended, it really kicks off at 100. I feel like Julie never really has a chance to breathe this season. She’s definitely going to be at 100 at all times.

Eulalie Magazine: Stressed out 24/7.

Hannah Cheramy: Just [can] never catch a break.

Eulalie Magazine: Do you have a highlight or a favorite on-set moment from shooting this season?

Hannah Cheramy: Yes, we have a new cast member this season. She’s my age, so I’ve had lots of fun hanging out with her. She’s my girl now. It’s so cool. I’m excited to see her work in the show.

Eulalie Magazine: Why do you think FROM resonates with audiences?

Hannah Cheramy: I think that people really like FROM because it’s such a word-of-mouth show. It’s not really one of those major shows that everybody’s watching and everyone’s talking about. The people who get it, get it. The people who watch it, when they pass it off to their friends, that word-of-mouth builds such a community vibe. That’s literally what the FROMily is. I think that it’s really cool that it’s growing in that way.

On the Horizon

Eulalie Magazine: What else is on the horizon for you, career-wise?

Hannah Cheramy: I’m doing lots of training — working a lot on specifically that kind of stuff. I have a fun project I’m going to be working on in April-ish. Excited to get started on that. I’m just trying to really fine-tune specific things. Definitely trying to expand my career opportunities this year.

Eulalie Magazine: Nice. Last question. What are your favorite movies?

Hannah Cheramy: Number one, without question, is The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. That’s just top-tier. Nothing else is really close. I love that movie.

Eulalie Magazine: Love Hunger Games.

Hannah Cheramy: I also love Black Swan. The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Titanic. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. West Side Story. Monsters, Inc.

Eulalie Magazine: Have you seen Romeo + Juliet, the one from the ’90s with Harold [Perrineau]?

Hannah Cheramy: Of course. I was in grade nine.

Eulalie Magazine: Definitely one of my favorites.

Hannah Cheramy: He’s the best Mercutio ever. I see people online saying, “Oh, Harold Perrineau, how does it feel to have so many adaptations and so many different interpretations of this character and to be universally agreed on to be the single best version?”

Eulalie Magazine: He really is, though.
