Though the name “Eulalie” is somewhat unique, Eulalie Magazine recently connected with another company that shares the name. In NYC, you can visit Eulalie the restaurant, which is located in the Tribeca area.

Tina Vaughn, co-owner of the restaurant, shared a little with us about how it came to be, the kinds of food they serve, and what makes the connection between Eulalie and Eulalie so special.

Eulalie the restaurant was opened in Tribeca in October 2023 by Tina Vaughn and Chip Smith — just a few months after the launch of Eulalie Magazine.

We’ve also discovered a local connection: though Eulalie Magazine is an online publication, its home is Wilmington, North Carolina. Coincidentally, the co-owners of Eulalie the restaurant also have roots in North Carolina!

Eulalie the restaurant is located at 239 West Broadway. They take reservations over the phone, “old-school style only,” according to Vaughn.

They are open for dinner Tuesdays-Saturdays, with reserved tables beginning at 5:45pm. They have a Prix Fixe menu with selections for guests, with menu items such as house-made terrine of Quail with foie gras and Armagnac-soaked flame raisins, crispy seared sweetbreads, squid ink farfalle, locally raised Pekin Duck, and Ajo Blanco with Carolina pickled shrimp.

Vaughn says wine pairings are also taken very seriously and can be curated to each menu offering. She says this is “a challenge we take to heart and palate! Each bite and sip should complement each other like good shoes with slacks!”

The chef, Chip Smith, also does his own baking each morning, and one standout favorite is his coconut cake. More Southern, North Carolina influence comes from Carolina Field Peas that the owners’ friends ship to them often from a local farmers market.

Below is a letter from Vaughn about the restaurant, what you can expect if you visit, and more about the connections between Eulalie and Eulalie Magazine.

“When I discovered that Eulalie was also a collection of elevated and creative writings for a magazine online created and curated in North Carolina, it gave me a deep sense of connection. We are Eulalie in Tribeca, NYC. Also established in 2023, another connection.”

“Discovery of a fellow namesake as a business was, well, delicious. Tickled me. Encouraged my non-online soul to reach out and say ‘hello, friend!’”

“The small world factor continues in that our first romantic dream began in Kitty Hawk. The other Outer Banks, north of Wilmington, North Carolina. Home of your sweet Eulalie. Dreamers are we all. With really no navigation of the yellow brick road ahead, right? My definitely better half, the Chef, Chip, was raised in Greenville, North Carolina. So the temptation to leave New York City, where he met me, a Rockette and Commercial Actress, and plant our first seedling of a restaurant in a strip mall at Milepost 1 seemed to be just the most romantic adventure. And it was.”

“This time of year we dream of the lazy warm days at the shore and the throngs of visitors who graced us with a visit. And those that are locals we continue to call friends. Wonderful, charming, and unique individuals.”

“I miss the fresh fish from our friends at Carawan. The produce from Joe D. Softshells from Manteo. Picking up Jumbo Lump Crab down by the bridge that crossed over to Manteo, listening to the ladies at the picking table giggle and gossip. Buying Carolina Shrimp to this day here in Tribeca. Guests saying [they were the] sweetest they ever tasted. Driving over to Grandy to Grandy’s Market, loading up our pickup with an ever-plentiful bounty. Corn, peaches, butter beans, tomatoes…the list is long. Puppy Drum. Cannot enjoy that up here. John’s on the Beach Road for lunch break. Tuna and fries. Tortugas Lie on our day off.”

“And the wonderful people who had the foresight to bring us all good wines to taste and share with our guests. Hard year-round living, but magnificent and thrilling in the highs and lows.”

“All of these experiences have and continue to shape us still. On West Broadway. Where whispers of North Carolina weave into our menu offerings and our genuine care of the guest. If a brand exists for what we do, it would be the very essence of ‘taste…’ Moments to reflect on all that was and is.”
